I Need Some CHOCOLATE!!

It has been one of those days, few days, weeks... It all started on Monday, Ben called and said that he would be getting a half day on Friday to kick off the 3-day weekend. WooHoo! I started making plans. We would pick the kids up early on Friday and be off. I should have know that once I got plans done for the entire weekend something would come up.
Tuesday Ben finds out that he is going out on a boat Thursday and coming home sometime Sunday. Okay, let's look at the bright side, you are not deployed, you have a good job, and you would be working if you were still a cop. We can deal with this. After school Bodin gets off the bus sobbing. His temp. is 103 degrees. Great, this is cause for worry. I was up all night checking on him and giving him meds to keep that temp. down. He stays home from school on Wednesday, but seems better besides a low grade temp.
Thursday comes around and Ben leaves. McKade starts acting up horribly, I'm thinking that it is probably due to the fact that I am baby-sitting a couple little girls and he is not getting enough attention. He dumps the Lucky Charms on the floor because he wanted more marshmallows. Then he runs and dumps the Cheetos. I put my little Superhero in his room for a time-out. (He enjoys it, so I guess it is actually a time-out for me).

By Thursday night McKade is running a temp. Another night of no sleep. He seems to be getting better by Friday morning. As I watch him during the day, he is not eating or drinking. I thought he had a sore throat. By evening I wrestle him to the floor and while holding a flashlight I peer into his mouth. It is covered in little blister looking things. Okay, off to urgent care we go. Remember Ben is gone so here we ALL go.
We spend a couple of hours down at urgent care to discover he has hand, foot, and mouth disease. It is viral and painful in his mouth and throat. We got drops to numb his mouth. It is very contagious so now we wait for the rest of them to get it. Hopefully before we travel.

And to top if off Ben just texted me to let me know the boat will be later than expected coming back in. Great! And there is no chocolate in this house. I guess I will have to settle for Mtn. Dew.

When I Grow Up...

"McKinna, what is this?"

"My paper from school."

"What does it say?"

"But, mom I want to be a teacher."

"McKinna I have told you a thousand times, think of something else, how about a nurse, a speech therapist, an ultrasound technician, a veterinatrian. You can do anything you want to do."

"But I want to be a teacher."

WE WILL KEEP WORKING ON THIS.

"Bodin, why did you put that you want to be a plane checker?"

"I really want to be a super hero mom, but Mrs. Duckett wouldn't let me put that."

"Honey, if you want to be a super hero GO FOR IT!" If not, let's think of something other than a plane checker so you can push the buttons:).

Bodin is 6

Bodin was lucky enough to have his birthday on a Saturday this year so he got to do the party and the real birthday all in the same day. His day could not get here fast enough, he spent most of McKinna's birthday bent out of shape because her birthday is always first. Yes it is, and it always will be! The morning began with him bolting into my room so he could go to the bathroom, but declaring as he whizzed by that he can now run faster because he his six. After finishing his business he let me know that he can now reach the sink handles since he is six and taller. He had a great party and for dinner his choice was macaroni and cheese. This may be the easiest cooking week I have ever had. I always chose enchiladas or pepper steak, something that made my mom work. One day my kids will catch on. Bodin really wanted an RC car this year. He always wants an RC car and over the years he has gotten many of them, but they always break so this time we invested in a nice one. It better last, but he loves it and plays with it daily. Bodin is a great boy and we are so proud of how kind he is to his brother and sisters. He is always wanting to play with them and hold them. He is a very loveable kid!

McKinna's 8

The big day finally arrived. McKinna is now the big eight.
For her birthday this year she wanted heelies. She got a pair of roller buds and she loves them. She is quite good at them. I let them pick what they want to eat for their birthday dinner and her choice was macaroni and tomato juice. She loves this and we don't eat it much because it is really not a meal, but if that is what she wants, that is what she gets. McKinna is a very bright girl who got straight A's this year. We are proud of how hard she works at school. Happy Birthday McKinna! You are growing up way too fast!

One Party Down...

Well, we are always busy the month of May. I have always made my kids have combined b-day parties, but I figured this year I would let them have their very own parties. I thought it would be a good way for them to meet more friends, and I could get to meet their parents. (Their birthdays are May 20th and the 22nd.)
McKinna's party was last Saturday. It happened to start pouring cats and dogs. I was not sure anyone would come. It can really come down here. We did get a few girls here and we had to run to the car with umbrellas to get them into the house. We then had a craft party. We first took their pictures.

We printed these off while the girls worked on decorating wooden picture frames. They painted and scrapbooked their frames. We used Glitz scrapbooking supplies. Thank you Erin, the girls loved your products. We then made notebooks and flower pens. One of the girls told me repeatedly, "Now this is my kind of party!" We had a good time.

Just as a side note I told McKinna that she could open one present on her real birthday before school and the rest after. Of course, I know what the presents are so I know what would be good to open before school. She says to me that she is going to open the one from Brie. I proceed to ask her why. "Because Brie always gets the good ones." Thanks McKinna! Hope you can live up to her expectations Brie. I quit trying 8 years ago:)

Field Day

Bodin missed his field day because we were in AZ. McKade, Journey, and I did pack up and spend a couple of hours down at McKinna's field day. We had a good time. Here are some pics from McKinna's day. She was very excited because her class won the sportsmanship award. Her teacher meant business when it came to this. They also won the tug-of-war competition.

I sure remember my field day as a kid. These are the times we remember!

Grandma Magee

We made a quick trip to AZ for Grandma Magee's funeral. We made as much use of the short time that we had. Our trip started out like this...

We had quite a wait at the airport due to some mechanical problems with our plane. McKade loved looking out the windows and yelling airplane, airplane. We finally got a new airplane and off we went.

Once we got there we were off. We made a quick stop to visit my Grandma Grace and then to drop off luggage at my mom's and then to Ben's parents for some pizza. The guys and the kids then went to Ironman 2. They all loved it. I took the babies home for some rest. We had been up since 4:30 a.m.
The next morning we got up and went to the funeral.

It is always good to see family...

And then to Grandma's house for a luncheon and some swimming time. The kids sure love playing with all those Cobb cousins.

After this we went and had a little time with the other side of the family. Bodin sure does miss Landon they had a great time together. Their time together ended like this.
I think that pretty much sums up the weekend!
After we got home the kids were outside playing. I stuck my head out to check on them and asked what they were doing. Their reply, "we are blowing bubbles up to grandma. Will the clouds pop them?" "No, of course not. Grandma will pop them with a smile on her face knowing they are from you."
We can't wait to get back to AZ next month for a little more time together.

What a Big Boy!

After months of looking at McKade at naptime like this...

(this is looking at him under the door. He jumps out of his bed and sleeps by the door)
I can now enjoy my nights as he sleeps in his big boy bed. He waves and says night night and runs off.

He still does not take his naps in his bed, but I will take him there at bedtime. Now if I can just keep Bodin in his bed. He has always been my bed hopper. In the middle of the night he goes wandering and sneaks into whatever bed he can get into. He is a little scared at nightime and this is his coping method. He will not sleep with McKade though because McKade hits and pinches him at night. Maybe we should all start doing this and he won't try to sleep with us either:).
