McKinna's Life

What has McKinna been up to lately? She had her 2nd grade performance last week. She did a great job! The program was called, Happy Birthday Hans, since Hans Christian Andersen's birthday was April 2nd. They sang about his fairy tales that were put to music and it had some acting with it. It was cute. She was bummed that she did not get one of the main parts because they had assigned them before we moved here. Maybe next year.

McKade and I then went to visit her class on Friday. Her class had been incubating some eggs and they had hatched so she wanted us to come and see them. I was amazed to see all of the animals (I will use this term loosely to describe some of the things that they have). They have a hissing cockroach, ferret, hedgehog, fish (McKinna tells me that they are called fry's because they are babies), chicks, and ladybugs. I asked the teacher how they got all the animals and she told me that they have a Living Center here. You have to spend a Saturday taking a class on how to take care of all the different creatures. You then become certified and you can check the animals out for up to two weeks. People check them out for Boy Scouts, schools, or whatever. This is so cool, the teachers don't have to spend all of their own money on this. What a concept!! And the kids are learning so much about living animals. They will be going on a field trip in a few weeks to a Wildlife Park to finish up this unit. How fun is that!

On a funny note, we have been doing our family nights on Mondays. I plan it all out for the kids and we usually have a lesson followed up with scavengar hunts or stories using stick figures or something like that to keep them interested. Anyway this last Monday we had a discussion on why it is important to keep our house clean followed up with their new chore chart. I spent a lot of time figuring out how to make this work best with picture images and the whole nine yards. Anyway they seemed really excited, and then McKinna says, "that's it? That was boring!" "What"? "Well", she says, "it was short". "Okay, you go plan it". And so she goes and plans a new lesson for us. How I love my little McKinna.
