Last Soccer Game

McKinna and Bodin had there last soccer games last Saturday. They did very well for their first season playing. Bodin's team won most of their games. McKinna's team had a little work to do. They both had a lot of fun though. Bodin will be playing some more soccer and McKinna has decided she is ready to move on to a new sport (maybe something without a ball, she is a little scared of it). It is also very hard to teach her to be aggressive. I think that is something that comes naturally and she is just not an aggressive girl.

I got skills!

Bodin said he learned a new trick on the tramp wanted to show off his new skill. He starts by jumping really high. He then all of the sudden tucks his legs under him going into a knee bounce. Once his knees hit the tramp he catapults himself into a hand/head stand, pauses for a second, and then flops over!! Where did he ever come up with this trick?? He was very proud of himself. It’s funny when kids learn or figure out new (to them) things and think they were the first ones to do it, it cracks me up. But if I am the one to do the new move, then it’s legit because I’m 2 legit to quit!!!

Slugs or Sugarbugs?

So, we were watching Harry Potter last night. It was at the part where Ron Weasley tries to put a spell on Malfoy to have him eat slugs and the spell backfires (as Ron's always do) and Ron ends up with slugs coming from his mouth. Bodin then pipes up and says, "Mom, what are those?" "Slugs", I say. You can see Bodin pondering as he replies with "Sugarbugs?"

I see this as a great teaching moment..."Yes, they are sugarbugs!"

Again, Boding takes a few minutes to think this over. His answer..."I brushed my teeth today."

"Yes, you did."

Contemplating once more..."And I did not eat too much junk."

"No, not today."

"I will brush my teeth everyday, and not eat too much junk."

If only I had known years ago that is all it takes to make him brush better and eat healthier.

Lesson learned!

Been a while since my last post. We got a new vehicle, Nissan Armada, and McKade received his 1st haircut!! Shani didn't want me to do it and I have been fighting her about it for a while. His hair was kinda cute when his head was smaller and it fit right. Since he has grown and his head expanded he started to look like a homeless child with a hair loss problem. So, being the man I put my foot down and shaved it with a 3 guard on the clippers. I must say, he looks much better!!

Gone fishing!!

Uncle Tommy had a great idea today and invited us to go fishing. I loaded the kids up and we headed out for a fun couple of hours of man vs. wild!! It was Bodin, McKade, Uncle Tommy Boy, and I with two kiddy poles and one man pole. We baited up the kid poles with tiny hotdogs with cheese in them and cast them out to the depths of the bottomless lake and waited. While waiting I started getting the man pole ready so I could try my luck at the bass I had seen there some months ago. I decided to use a top water lure that had two treble hooks on it. I just about had it tied on when Bodin, in the middle of his fishing dance, came running across my line. I feel the line go tight and the next thing I know my lure goes zipping out of my hands and into my palm! Yup, off to a great start. Luckily it didn’t stick me too good and I was able to tie it off and start fishing.

Well, while I was with my man pole going after man size fish Uncle Tom yelled “I got one” WTH!! (what the heck). Tommy Boy hands the pole off to Bodin and it was on. The epic battle between fish and boy went for a good 3-4 minutes till Bodin finally wrestled in a good sized catfish. My boy’s first fish, I was so proud you can almost see a teardrop in my eye! Bodin ended up catching 3 more good sized fish, one giving him a really good fight, before we had to leave. If push came to shove we would have been able to eat that day because Bodin and his kiddy pole caught all the fish and I got skunked!!!

Half day at school

It was a half day at school for McKinna today and she got to take a friend home with her. I can kinda handle Bodin and McKade for the day, but adding McKinna and her friend is begging for pain!! McKade wasn't the best today and almost made me go ape SH*T on him so I had to put him to sleep. It is not too bad though, at least it keeps McKinna and Bodin from fighting each other every chance they get. McKinna doesn’t get too many play dates so it’s nice to see her play with a friend. McKinna’s friend has some really pretty blue eyes so I had to take a pic.

Where does the time go.......

I hate having too much time to think. I always end up thinking about how fast life goes, how fast the kids grow, and how I am almost at the top of the mountain ready to make the tumbling trip back down the other side. Even though I see my family everyday I just can’t help but think they are slipping threw my hands and it really sucks. It seems like yesterday I was in Marine Corps boot camp and moving with Shani to California. Then the next thing I know Shani and I were walking off the plane in Hawaii to start our adventure there.

I can still remember when McKinna was tiny (ok, still tiny). Watching this little person grow counting on me for protection and comfort. I remember being so mad that she was not a boy, then how she melted my heart. I use to turn music on and go dancing around the house with her in my arms singing to her. She would have this big smile on her face laughing and having a great time. I remember when I found out Bodin was a boy and proud he was to show us he was a boy on the ultrasound. He loved to be outside, if he was throwing a fit all you had to do was walk outside and he shut his mouth. Bodin was into balls and trucks from the get go. Next thing I know four years had gone by and we were packing up to move back to Arizona. It was a really stressful decision trying to figure out if I should stay in the USMC or get out. I knew I wanted out but was unsure if it was the right thing. It was really hard to leave Hawaii, it felt so right living there.

It has been almost four years since we moved back to Az. McKinna’s first day of kindergarten was hard for me to accept. She was just growing up to fast and my days off with her were no longer. Next year Bodin will be leaving me for school and that is going to hurt as well because we do everything together, from going shooting to getting a drink at the Quick Trip, that boy is my right had man. I do have one more to take care of on my days off and look forward to having him at my side while I show him the world.
